Are you interested in municipal matters or want to see democracy in action? Join us!  The Penetanguishene Election Team is currently recruiting twelve (12) individuals to work various positions in support of voting events for the 2026 Municipal Election.

Opportunities are available on the following dates:

• Institutional Voting (various locations) - October 19, 21 and 22, 2026 (1 position to fill)
• Election Day - October 26, 2026 (11 positions to fill)

All positions are compensated and provided with the necessary training to prepare for the responsibilities.

The following positions are available:

• Mobile Revision/Ballot Officer - Institutional Voting ($175 per shift)
• Information Officer - 2 available positions ($300 per shift)
• Revision Officer - 3 available positions ($420 per shift)
• Ballot Officer - 4 available positions ($420 per shift)
• Tabulation Officer - 2 available positions ($300 per shift)

All positions are paid a flat rate per shift as listed above, which includes training.

You are eligible if you:

• are at least 16 years of age and eligible to work in Canada;
• are not a family member of a candidate in the 2026 Town of Penetanguishene municipal and school board election

You are ineligible if you:

• are a Candidate;
• are a spouse of a Candidate;
• are a member of a candidates' immediate family;
• are a person connected to candidates' election campaigns

Election workers must stay politically neutral while performing their duties. Election workers are not permitted to support or oppose any candidate while working and cannot seek nomination or run as a candidate in the election. Outside of their working hours, they may participate in political activities as private citizens.

The time commitment depends on the position.  The mobile revision/ballot officer will have three (3) shifts of five (5) hours from approximately 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on average. While the other four positions (Information, Revision, Ballot and Tabulator Officers) will be required to work from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Training sessions are mandatory and the approximate length of the session will be two (2) hours.

While previous election experience is not required, the ideal candidate will have experience working with technology and computers and have excellence customer service skills. Training will be provided to all staff in September/early October. Municipal Election staff will be on site on Election Day to support all staff.

Payment will be processed to all hired election staff through electronic fund transfer (EFT) after Election Day, October 26.  If you earn $500 or more, you will have Federal and Provincial income tax, Employment Insurance (EI), and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) premiums deducted from the pay and a T4 slip will be issued.
