Sewer Backups and Maintenance

For water emergencies out-side of normal working hours, please dial 1-888-921-1258.

The sanitary sewer mains and connections within the Municipal right of way are maintained and repaired by the Municipality. If you are having a problem with sewage backup at your property please contact Public Works Department immediately.

When you use your toilet, shower, washing machine or dishwasher, wastewater leaves your home through pipes that connect to the Town’s sewer system.

Putting the wrong things down the drain can damage the sewer system, cause sewer backups in your home, and sewer releases to the environment.

Here is a list of some things to keep out of the toilet.

  • disposable diapers
  • tampons and tampon applicators
  • sanitary napkins
  • cotton balls and swabs
  • mini or maxi pads
  • condoms
  • cleaning wipes of any kind
  • contact lenses
  • bandages and bandage wrappings
  • automotive fluids, fuels, oils
  • paint, solvents, sealants and thinners
  • poisons and hazardous waste
  • dental floss
  • medications
  • cigarette butts
  • kitchen fats, oils, grease

Basically, the only things you should ever flush down a toilet are human waste and toilet paper.
