Town of Penetanguishene Winter Maintenance Training and Seasonal Preparations Underway

Penetanguishene, ON – The Town of Penetanguishene is advising residents that annual winter maintenance training and route reviews will begin on October 19 as crews prepare for the upcoming winter season.

Beginning October 19, residents may notice both snow plows and sidewalk maintenance equipment operating throughout the community as operators complete training exercises and familiarize themselves with winter maintenance routes. Equipment may be seen on municipal roads, sidewalks, pathways, and at road crossings as part of these preparations.

These annual training activities help operators review routes, identify potential obstacles, practice safe operating procedures, and ensure all equipment is functioning properly before snow and ice control operations begin. Training is expected to continue for several weeks.

Safety Reminders for Motorists

When approaching winter maintenance equipment:

  • Reduce your speed and remain alert.
  • Allow extra space between your vehicle and maintenance equipment.
  • Stay well back from snow plows and avoid passing unless it is safe and legal to do so.
  • Be aware that sidewalk equipment may be entering or exiting sidewalks at intersections and road crossings.
  • Obey all traffic signs and posted instructions.

Safety Reminders for Pedestrians

When using sidewalks and pathways:

  • Stay alert when approaching operating equipment.
  • Keep children and pets a safe distance from equipment.
  • Follow any temporary detours or instructions from staff.
  • Use extra caution around equipment, especially near intersections and crossings.

The Town appreciates the cooperation and patience of residents as these important seasonal preparations are completed. Through ongoing training and equipment readiness activities, Town crews are working to ensure Penetanguishene's roads, sidewalks, and pathways remain safe and accessible throughout the winter season.
