Town of Penetanguishene welcomes Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce to Town Dock location

Joint Release – Town of Penetanguishene and Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce

Penetanguishene - The Town of Penetanguishene is pleased to announce a partnership with the Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) to operate a satellite office out of the Penetanguishene Town Dock, Tourist Information Centre (TIC) this summer.

“This new partnership is another great example of how municipalities and organizations have had to rethink their service delivery in response to the pandemic.  Having the Chamber present in Penetanguishene to not only greet our visitors but promote our business community is an innovative way that we have found efficiencies and cost savings for the constituents of the Town.  It is a win/win for our businesses and residents” said Sherry Desjardins, Director of Recreation and Community Services.

The Town of Penetanguishene has traditionally provided tourist information out of the TIC building. Leveraging the Chamber as a tourism and business resource supports the Towns efforts to showcase our distinctive local heritage and nurture the retention and expansion of existing businesses in connection with the Towns Strategic Plan.

“We are very excited to be introducing a Chamber of Commerce satellite office at Penetanguishene Harbour this summer and to be promoting the businesses and tourism assets for the Town” said Cathy Tait, Chamber General Manager. “It makes great sense for the Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Penetanguishene to have entered a shared staffing arrangement with the joint role to be promoting the businesses and considerable tourism assets to visitors and residents.  It’s a wonderful arrangement and partnership”.

Currently, the Chamber operates out of a Downtown Midland location and is a dedicated non-profit organization that represents more than 400 business members and their employees throughout our surrounding municipalities, 50 of which are in Penetanguishene. The Chamber’s Volunteer leadership and staff are committed to investing in the community, helping members succeed, and creating prosperity for Southern Georgian Bay.

The Chamber staff will be onsite at the TIC, starting Saturday June 26th, 2021.
