Town Awards Youth Endowment in Recognition of Youth Week

National Youth Week runs May 1 to 7 each year and is dedicated to the celebration of youth and their active participation in their community. Each year the Town of Penetanguishene through the Wellness and Accessibility Committee solicits applications to the Town’s Youth Endowment Fund.

The Fund was created in 2011 through a partnership with the Huronia Communities Foundation to support a resident or group from Penetanguishene that engages in an activity that assists in promoting the Town through participation in athletic, artistic, education or cultural activities and is prepared to share their knowledge or skills with others in the community through a volunteer activity.

The Wellness and Accessibility Committee is pleased to recognize the application submitted by Felix Van Beek. Felix will be working with the staff at the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum to develop and offer a tour and activities to teach other youth about the history of the town. Following completion the program, Felix will attend a Council meeting to share what he has learned and contributed to the Penetanguishene community with assistance of the Youth Endowment Fund.

“The committee was excited to receive Felix’s application” said Councillor Bonita DesRoches, Chair of the Wellbeing and Accessibility Committee. “Felix’s sense of pride in his community was evident in his submission as well as his desire to share our local history with other youth”.

“Providing Penetanguishene Youth with a sense of community and supporting their growth is integral to the services we offer in the Town. This fund encourages initiative and helps develop our leaders of tomorrow.” Mayor Doug Rawson
