PUBLIC NOTICE: WINTER ROAD MAINTENANCE
The Town of Penetanguishene is responsible for winter road maintenance which includes: plowing, sanding, salting and the removal of snow. These operations are completed by the Roads Division on Town roadways, sidewalks, crosswalks and at Town owned facilities.
We do our best to quickly clear the snow and ice to reduce hazards to you. Many factors, including temperature, weather forecasts and precipitation determine how and when plowing, salting or sanding should take place.
How can you help?
- Do not park on the street during a snowstorm or while snow-clearing operations are underway
- Pile all snow from your driveway and sidewalks on your property, not on the road
- On your garbage day, place garbage and recycling containers close to the road edge but in your driveway so they do not interfere with snow removal
- Give plows plenty of room and remember they may need to back up
- When approaching a plow, keep your headlights on and stay to the right
- Please be patient while you wait for plows to get to your street
- Clear snow and ice from your sidewalk
- Avoid parking vehicles on sidewalks
- Remind children not to climb or play in snowbanks
- Clear snow away from fire hydrants, if possible
These activities improve road and sidewalk safety, increase the efficiency of our snowplowing operations and help reduce the cost of winter services by allowing us to plow properly with one pass.
Failure to comply with the parking restrictions outlined within the Parking By-Law could result in a fine.
Your cooperation is appreciated and should residents have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 705-549-7992.
