Penetanguishene hosts Commuter Challenge, promoting active transportation
From September 11 to 15, the Town of Penetanguishene challenges all North Simcoe to a Commuter Challenge, aimed at reducing single-occupancy vehicle transportation and promoting active transportation options such as walking, and cycling!
The free registration for the challenge opens on August 3 and can be completed through Programs (recdesk.com). Participants can join as an individual or get a group together and enter as a team.
The Commuter Challenge aims to encourage participants to utilize active transportation methods to commute to work. This could include walking, cycling, rollerblading, or even skateboarding. By choosing these eco-friendly options, participants not only help reduce their carbon footprint but also promote a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
"We are excited to host the Commuter Challenge in Penetanguishene this year and encourage everyone to take part in this fun and healthy competition. By choosing active transportation options like cycling, walking or rolling, we can reduce our carbon footprint and make our community a greener and healthier place to live. Let's work together to make Penetanguishene a leader in sustainable transportation." – Doug Rawson, Mayor of Penetanguishene.
The event also invites participants to join the photo contest on ConnectPenetanguishene.ca, where they can upload images of their active commuting experience. The winning photo will receive a prize, and the entries will be featured on the town website and social media platforms.
This event provides a fantastic opportunity for Penetanguishene residents to come together as a community and make a positive impact on the environment. So, get ready to lace up your sneakers, inflate your bike tires, and get active during the commuter challenge from September 11th to 15th.
