Notice of Sanitary Sewer Flushing: Zone 2 & 4

The Town of Penetanguishene would like to inform residents that scheduled sanitary sewer flushing will be conducted in portions of Zone 2 and Zone 4 as part of our ongoing infrastructure maintenance program. The map outlining Zone 2 and 4 can be seen at the bottom of this notice, highlighted in Purple and Red.

Schedule of Work
Start Date: Tuesday, September 30, 2025
Time: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Duration: Approximately 2 days

Why do we conduct sanitary sewer flushing?

This preventative maintenance process is necessary to remove settled and accumulated material and to eliminate the potential for sanitary sewer main surcharging, which can result in damage to property.

During the flushing process, Town crews will access manholes and use high-pressure water equipment to clean the sewer mains. This may cause temporary effects in nearby homes, including:

  • Bubbling or gurgling in toilets and drains
Minor vacuum effects in plumbing fixtures

To minimize inconvenience, residents are advised to:

  • Keep toilet lids closed and cover floor drains during flushing hours
  • Run water in all sinks and floor drains after the work is completed to refill plumbing traps and prevent sewer gases from entering the home

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we carry out this essential maintenance work.
