Notice - Disposing Hazardous Waste into the Sanitary Sewer System

The Public Works Department is issuing this notice as a reminder to all residents/businesses that the following items are not to be flushed down toilets or drains:    

• Hygiene products  
• Cleaning/infant wipes 
• Fats, oils, and cooking grease. 
• Medication (e.g. pills or liquid). 
• Household hazardous waste (e.g. paints, pesticides, cleaning products). 
• Car and garage products (e.g. motor oil, antifreeze) 

The above items can cause blockages within your plumbing and the municipal sanitary sewer system which could result in basement flooding. These items can also cause damage to our sewage treatment plant and harm the aquatic environment downstream.
