Main Street Reconstruction Update - September 7, 2018

Main Street Reconstruction Update - September 7, 2018

It is beginning to be a very repetitive introduction, but JB Enterprises has had another very productive week. Asphalt has been extended to allow access to the Village Square Mall from the north entrance closest to the Tim Hortons. New detour routes have been established which take a period of time to get accustomed to so please proceed with caution through these areas. JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending September 7, 2018:

• Base Asphalt completed from Robert Street to South of Jeffery Street;
• Sanitary Main installation completed to South of Edward Street;
• Sanitary Services and Water Services Complete to Edward Street;
• Completed Paving Stones in the Angle Parking area on Main Street;
• Excavation and granular placement for asphalt preparation completed to north of Edward Street;
• Traffic Lights Base and Poles Removed in the Edward Street and Main Street Intersection;
• Completed asphalt pulverizing to south of Edward Street; and,
• Traffic Controls moved to Thompson Road Intersection.

The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of September 10, 2018 to September 14, 2018:
• Continue Sanitary Main heading South from Edward Street;
• Continue Boulevard Stones from Beck to Robert Street;
• Continue Water Servicing from Edward Street heading South;
• Continue Excavation and Granular Placement from Edward heading South;
• Sidewalk Removal from Robert Street heading South;
• Continue Sanitary services from Edward heading South; and,
• Bollard Concrete base installation from Robert Street to 118 Main Street.

The children are back at school now so please use extra caution when you are travelling through the detour routes to make sure the children walking through these areas are safe. Understandably, the increased traffic through the detour routes can be frustrating, but safety needs to be the first priority.

As the reconstruction moves along Main Street towards the plaza entrances which house the Delta Bingo & Gaming Center, Pizza Nova, Pan Mai Restaurant, Main Street Computers and the office of Dr. Ken Leroux there will be an alternate entrance put in place. The ownership at Gignac’s Auto has graciously allowed access to the plaza by using the entrance off Edward Street behind the garage. Please respect the business owners and do not occupy parking spaces at Gignac’s Auto if your intention is to access a business in the plaza. Directional fencing will be installed to define the path for plaza access.

Also, to accommodate the movement of the Hydro One vehicles, a temporary access is going to be created from the end of Mackenzie Court in the Bellisle Heights Subdivision, to O L Dubeau Road. This temporary road will be for Hydro One vehicles only. The sidewalk along this corridor will remain open with a physical barrier between the temporary road and the sidewalk to be installed. As soon as full access to Main Street is reinstated off O L Dubeau Road, the temporary road will be removed and the physical barriers put back in place.

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and understanding. Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 549-7992 or visit the Town of Penetanguishene website at www.penetanguishene.ca.
