Main Street Reconstruction Update - June 1, 2018

Reconstruction of Main Street

The reconstruction of our Main Street has officially moved into the next phase of the project.  Sidewalks have been established in the initial phase with paving and landscaping to start next week. Detours have been set-up for the next phase as per the Traffic Control Plan which is available on the municipal website. At this point of the reconstruction, JB Enterprises Ltd. is trying to encourage traffic to use the detours and avoid driving into the construction zone. That being said, communications are being released and modifications have been made to allow for access to the angle parking from Robert Street to Nettleton Drive. Please see the attached map indicating how access to the businesses on the hill can be achieved.  JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending June 1st, 2018:

  • Pulverized asphalt to the south side of the Water and Simcoe Street intersection;
  • Sidewalk installation from Wolfe Street  to Brock Street on the west side;
  • Excavation to pre-grade and Granular Placement for road bed development on the Sewage Treatment Plant Lane;
  • Sanitary Bypass installed at Water and Simcoe Streets;
  • Catch basin and Maintenance hole Structure Lids and Granular A final grading in Section one started; and,
  • Sanitary Main and Stormwater Main installation started at Tessier Lane heading south

 The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of June 4th, 2018 to June 8th, 2018:

  • Continue Sanitary main and Stormwater main installation from Tessier Lane to Water Street;
  • Start commissioning of the temporary watermain from Water Street to Robert Street;
  • Place base course asphalt from Wolfe Street to 20m short of Tessier Street;
  • Place base course asphalt on Sewage Treatment Plant Lane;
  • Sidewalk installation from Wolfe Street to Brock Street on the East side; and,

The reconstruction of Main Street is quickly approaching one of the most impactful areas which will be the lower portion of the hill.  The work in this area will ultimately produce a beautiful streetscape that we can all be proud of, as an entire Town, but getting through this area will not be without its challenges.  The safest and quickest way for JB Enterprises Ltd. and their staff to complete this work is to block vehicular access to the general public, but sidewalk access will remain a viable option throughout.  Everyone invested in the Main Street Reconstruction recognizes that there will be an impact to the businesses and this is why additional signage, directions and detours have been put in place to try and alleviate some of the burden.

To the general public and visitors to the Town of Penetanguishene, the businesses of Penetanguishene are remaining open during the reconstruction to serve us all, please show them your appreciation by shopping local when you can.

We would like to thank you again for your patience and co-operation during this work.  Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 549-7992 or visit the Town of Penetanguishene website at www.penetanguishene.ca.
