Main Street Reconstruction Update-July 27, 2018

Main Street ongoing reconstruction

It has been another eventful week with the Main Street Reconstruction as we finally received the reprieve from the dry heat with a torrential downpour on Tuesday.  Although the rain event set back our contractor for a short period of time, they were back into production immediately after the cleanup which is a testament to the quality of work and workmanship that they are bringing to this project. JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending July 27th, 2018:

  • Water Main tied in at Main Street and Robert Street Intersection;
  • Sanitary Bypass moved south to Poyntz Street;
  • Hand wells and Electrical Conduit for Traffic Signals Placed in the Intersection of Robert and Main Street;
  • Sanitary Main and Storm Main complete from Robert Street & Main Street to the  Intersection at Poyntz Street;
  • Asphalt Driveways restored from Tessier Lane to Water Street/Simcoe Street;
  • Removed materials from the Boat Launch Area;
  • Street Light Re-locations from Water Street/Simcoe Street to Robert Street ongoing.
  • Concrete works started from 63 Main Street up to and including the Robert Street Intersection.
  • Started Boulevard paver stone installations at Wolfe Street and heading south.

The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of July 30th, 2018 to August 3rd, 2018:

  • Continue Robert Street and Main Street intersection Curbs, and Concrete Road Base;
  • Installation of Sanitary, Storm, and Water Services from Robert Street to Poyntz Street;
  • Robert Street and Main Street Intersection Open for East/West Traffic starting on August 3rd;
  • Continue Water Main heading south towards Poyntz from Robert Street;
  • Continue Street Light Re locations from Water Street/Simcoe Street to Robert Street;
  • Sidewalk installation from Water Street/Simcoe Street to Robert Street;
  • Asphalt from 63 Main to the Robert Street Intersection;
  • Traffic Light Base and Pole installations started;
  • Temporary Water Main set up from Jeffrey Street to Edward Street;
  • Continue Boulevard Paving Stones From Wolfe heading South; and,
  • Place Granulars on Main Street from Robert Street continuing south in preparation for asphalt;

It has been brought to the attention of the Town, on multiple occasions, that vehicles are not obeying the street lights at the Main Street and Poyntz Street intersection.  The contractor and the Town have opted to keep these lights operational for two reasons.  The First being to accommodate the pedestrians that are trying to cross the street in any direction and the second is to allow the safe movement of construction vehicles in and out of the intersection.

As we are approaching the re-opening of the Robert Street intersection, the Contractor and the Town felt it was important to clarify how traffic will be allowed to move at the intersection when it initially reopens.  Vehicular traffic will be open to movement in both the East and West direction, but the contractor will still be working in the area between Robert Street and Poyntz Street so that section will remain closed.  Additionally, work will continue between Robert Street and the Water Street/Simcoe Street intersection so Main Street will remain closed to northbound traffic at Robert Street.  As travel lanes become available on the hill, JB Enterprises will open lanes to local traffic only.  A map has been attached to illustrate the movement of traffic starting August 3rd, 2018.
