Exploring Microtransit in Penetanguishene

The Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene would like to inform residents, businesses and transit riders that the review of the joint request for proposals (RFP) for the provision of Microtransit is ongoing. The RFP evaluation team from both Midland and Penetanguishene is completing due diligence and review of the submissions received.

A staff report is scheduled to be presented to the Town of Penetanguishene Committee of the Whole on January 14, 2026, with a recommendation proceeding to Council for ratification on February 11, 2026. Similarly, the Town of Midland Committee of the Whole and Council will review their report on January 7, 2026.

The Midland and Penetanguishene Transit Service will continue to operate in accordance with their existing service schedules until direction on Microtransit from both Councils is received. If approved to proceed, the existing transit service would continue to operate until a transition can be made to the Microtransit service.

The start date of the Microtransit service cited within the RFP was January 2, 2026. Due to the longer than anticipated RFP review period, the start date of the Microtransit service is estimated to be July 2026.

Midland and Penetanguishene stakeholders will be provided with further information and updates as further information and direction become available on the status of the Microtransit service.
