Enbridge Gas Assists Penetanguishene Fire & Emergency Services and the Midland Fire Department in Supporting Firefighter Training
Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas) is helping Penetanguishene Fire & Emergency Services and the Midland Fire Department purchase firefighting training materials, through Safe Community Project Assist–a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates.

This year’s $250,000 donation from Enbridge Gas will be shared by 50 Ontario fire departments, including Penetanguishene Fire & Emergency Services and the Midland Fire Department. Funds are used to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.
Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 294 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.
“Safe Community Project Assist improves access to training materials for fire departments,” says Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC. “Firefighting can be dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the health and safety of firefighters and the broader community.”
“The donation from the Enbridge Safe Community Project Assist program is vital to smaller communities such as Midland and Penetanguishene. These funds assist our two departments in purchasing the most current training resources to keep our front-line staff trained to the highest levels possible,” says Midland Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Rich Lowell. “With the municipalities’ close proximity to each other, Midland and Penetanguishene have developed a mutual aid agreement for Rapid Intervention Teams. This has led to more shared training opportunities between the two departments. With this donation from our community partner Enbridge, the training materials purchased will be shared between the two departments. About the Midland Fire Department
The Town of Midland has an established composite fire department which provides emergency services to a population of approximately 17,817 people, from one central fire station operating with a force of 37 staff members.
About Penetanguishene Fire & Emergency Services
Penetanguishene Fire & Emergency Services has an established volunteer fire department which provides emergency services to a population of approximately 10,077 people, from one central fire station operating with a force of 33 staff members.
Both municipalities share many training programs.
