COVID-19 Municipal Impacts – December 18, 2020

The Town of Penetanguishene continues to monitor news and updates concerning COVID-19 in order to ensure we work to keep our community members safe.  The following update provided on December 18, 2020 is in addition to the updates provided in previous weeks here.

Penetanguishene is currently in RED/CONTROL Zone of the keeping Ontario safe and open framework. The Town is encouraging residents to stay home and keep our community safe based on public health recommendations. To help, we have many services that we can offer by phone or digitally. New Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Recommendations: On December 15, 2020, Dr. Charles Gardner released a special statement relating to our region entering the Red/Control Level and the holiday precautions our community should follow. Please read the special statement letter here.

Changes to Municipal Recreation: The Recreation Department has been in contact with all ice users and recreation program instructors to confirm and explain the changes outlined below at the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre.

  • No more than 10 participants areallowed on the ice at one time
  • All other recreation programs are capped at 10 participants indoors.
  • Team sports must not be practiced or played except for training (no games or scrimmage).
  • Change rooms are closed for all users.

Holiday Closure Information: Please be advised that the Town's administrative offices (Townhall and Public Works) will be closed for the holidays starting on Thursday December 24, 2020 at 12:00 noon and reopening at 8:30 a.m. on Monday January 4, 2021. For any Roads or Water after-hours emergencies please call: 705-527-8210.

Holiday Building Inspections: During the Municipal Office Holiday Closure, outlined above, there will be no building inspections. If you wish to book an inspection before the New Year please call the Building Department by 11:00 am on December 23, 2020 to secure an inspection appointment.  Inspections will resume on Monday January 4, 2021.

OPP Reporting Tool: We remind residents that OPP ask that you report allegations of non-compliance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act by phoning 1-888-310-1122 or utilizing the online reporting tool at opp.ca/reporting.

Fire Safety: Fire permits are not required at this time. Please remember that fires are for recreational purposes and are only permitted between 4:00 pm to midnight. Please ensure you follow all guidelines outlined here
