Council Highlights - September 25, 2019

Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Detailed agendas and minutes from the meetings are available on our website or you can view our livestream for additional details. Meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.​

Special Council

  • Council received a presentation from Meridian Planning regarding the Town of Penetanguishene’s Zoning By-law Review Project, with focus on some “hot topics” including, Number of Residential zones, Accessory Apartments, Laneway Housing and Tiny Homes.

Council

  • Council held the Statutory Public Meeting for the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment - Removal of the Holding “H” Symbol for 66 and 68 McArthur Drive (to be consolidated into one address of 68 McArthur Drive).  There we no comments from the public on the matter.
  • Council presented cheques to Crime Stoppers of Simcoe Dufferin Muskoka and the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation.
  • Council passed a resolution in support Township of McKellar’s request to the Province regarding the potential Municipal Amalgamation.
  • Council proclaimed the week of October 1st to October 7th as National Breastfeeding Week in the Town of Penetanguishene will host a flag raising ceremony at Townhall on October 1st, 2019 at 9:15am to celebrate National Breastfeeding Week.
  • Council approved the resolutions passed at the September 11, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting.
  • Council approved two By-laws being one to establish the rates of remuneration to non-union Staff and the other Amend Zoning By-law 2000-02 to remove ‘H’ Symbol from 66 and 68 McArthur Drive.

Committee of the Whole (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):

  • Committee received Presentation from Severn Sound Environmental Association;
  • Committee received a deputation from Penetang Sand and Gravel re: Subdivision Agreement - Phase 2 Harbour Pointe Subdivision (formerly Phase 3 of the Bellisle Heights Subdivision)
  • Committee received a deputation from Jim Nesci and Paul Last re: Subdivision Agreement - Phase 2 Harbour Pointe Subdivision (formerly Phase 3 of the Bellisle Heights Subdivision)
  • Committee received an update regarding the Ojibwa Landing Ecological and Human Health Risk Assessment.
  • Committee received a memorandum regarding the status of the Appeals before the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal specifically regarding 212 Gilwood Park Drive, the Queen’s Court Development and the Town’s new Official Plan.
  • Committee referred the Subdivision Agreement – Phase 2 Harbour Pointe Subdivision back to staff for recommended changes to be presented at the next meeting.
  • Committee received for information an update related to transit ridership, a Paint-the-Plow Program, and a rescheduled date for the Ojibway Public Information session of October 22, 2019 at 7pm.
  • Committee approved the Town participating in a Fuel Card program with Wex Inc.
  • Committee approved the General Consulting agreement with Greenland Engineering Consultants Ltd. for consulting engineering services for 5 years.
  • Committee received for information an update related to the wharf structural repairs, Bayside Summer Soiree, and Tourism Information Centre. 
  • Committee approved the fee-waiver request for room rentals by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
  • Committee approved the Service Excellence Strategy in principal with updates on the strategy to come at future meetings.
