Council Highlights - January 8, 2020

Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Detailed agendas and minutes from the meetings are available on our website or you can view our livestream for additional details. Meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.​

Council

  • Council presented grants to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation ($10,000) and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe ($2,500).
  • Council ratified the decisions from the Committee of the Whole meeting on December 11, 2019.
  • Council passed two by-laws including agreement for an easement with Alectra Utilities and an agreement with the Georgian Bay Snowriders Snowmobile Club.

Committee of the Whole (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):

  • Committee received an update regarding the Service Line Warranty of Canada Program and determined that no Town action was required, to pass along the information to the public.
  • Committee discussed the land use for Ojibway landing, and requested additional information and that the item be deferred to a meeting where all members of Council will be present. 
  • Committee received an annual report on fees waived by the municipality for the year 2019 as per the Fee Waiver Policy.
  • Committee received a response from Maya Harris from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing responding to questions received on November 27, 2019, during the Council Workshop presentation on land use planning from a Provincial perspective.
  • Committee received an update from the Huronia Airport regarding a fuel tank replacement and the minutes from the Huronia Airport Commission meeting of October 24, 2019.
  • Committee approved a recommendation from the Police Services Board for a poster competition within our local schools to assist in bringing awareness to community safety.
  • Committee approved the proclamation of January as Crime Stoppers Month in Penetanguishene.
  • Committee approved the Town’s participation with the County of Simcoe and neighbouring municipalities in producing a joint Community Safety and Well-Being Plan with the Town Clerk being appointed as the representative for Penetanguishene.
  • Committee approved the proposed updates to the Council Remuneration By-law.
