Council and Committee of the Whole Highlights: March 12, 2025 – News Release

Council

  • Council proclaimed the month of March as #ITSTARTS month in the Town of Penetanguishene.
  • Council proclaimed April 2nd as World Autism Day in the Town of Penetanguishene.
  • Council received a presentation from the Environmental Services Supervisor - Water regarding the Drinking Water Systems Annual Report Summary for 2024.
  • Council received a presentation from the Canadian Ramp Company regarding the Penetanguishene Skatepark.
  • Council approved the 2024 Drinking Water System Summary report as presented.
  • Council approved the initial acceptance of municipal services for Phase 4 of the Harbour Pointe Subdivision (Revol Road).
  • Council approved the initial acceptance of municipal services for the 40 Thompsons Road Subdivision (Lahey Crescent).
  • Council approved the exemption from the Site Plan Control By-law 2014-30 for178 Little Sandy Bay Lane.
  • Council appointed the Chief Administrative Officer and Director of Public works to participate in a Municipal Staff Committee to develop a business case for creating joint water and wastewater services.
  • Council approved the withdrawal of their membership from the Economic Development Corporation of North Simcoe (EDCNS) effective immediately.
  • Council appointed Jill St. Amant to the Penetanguishene Library Board.
  • Council passed 3 by-laws:
  • 2025-07 Agreement with the Ship’s Company of Penetanguishene.
  • 2025-08 By-law to Regulate the Water Works Utility and to Establish Fees Charges for Water Utility.
  • 2025-09 Zoning By-law Amendment for 65 Nettleton Drive.

Committee of the Whole

Committee of the Whole (Committee) facilitates the decision-making process of Council. The Committee is comprised of all members of Council who fully participate in debate and forward recommendations to Council for final decision. Items that are discussed in Committee of the Whole are to be ratified at Council’s next meeting.

PRESENTATIONS

  • Committee received a presentation from the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives Curator regarding the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.

TRANSPORTATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

  • Committee received the 2023 Ontario Urban Transit Fact Book.
  • Committee received a memo update on the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Committee received the Drinking Water Quality Management System Meeting Minutes from December 12, 2024.
  • Committee approved a list of eight crosswalks throughout Town to be considered in the 2026 budget process as locations for community event pavement markings.

 

RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES

  • Committee received the Museum & Heritage Advisory Committee Minutes for January 9, 2025.
  • Committee received the Penetanguishene Library Board Meeting Minutes for January 27,,
  • Committee received a memo related to the All Things Canadian Festival taking place in 2025.
  • Committee approved the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives Strategic Plan 2025-2030.
  • Committee approved the proceedings with a hybrid phased-in approach for the skatepark enhancements and replacements.
  • Committee approved the collaboration with the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre to host a cycling festival alongside Cycle for Hope

 

PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

  • Committee received a Memo regarding Nuisance and Loitering By-laws for information.
  • Committee received the By-law Monthly Activity report for March for information.
  • Committee approved the revised draft Telecommunication Notice Policy.

FINANCE AND CORPORATE SERVICES

  • Committee received a Service of Excellence Strategy Update.
  • Committee approved the 2025 work plans for the Advisory Committees and Boards of Council.
  • Committee approved amending the 2025 capital budget with the 2024 capital carry forwards.
