Council and Committee of the Whole Highlights January 12, 2022

Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Detailed agendas and minutes from the meetings are available on our website. This meeting is available for viewing on our YouTube Channel. 

Council

  • Council received a verbal update from the Chief Administrative Officer regarding COVID-19 Municipal Impacts. 
  • Council approved that the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum and Archives change their off-season operating hours to Monday to Friday.
  • Council approved Mayor Leroux’s appointment of Joshua Warriner to the Transit Committee for the remainder of Council term.
  • Council approved all recommendations in the December 8, 2021, Committee of the Whole Report.
  • Mayor Leroux moved a Notice of Motion to provide $3,000 of funding to the North Simcoe Family Health Team.  The motion will be discussed and voted upon at the February 9, 2022 Council meeting.
  • Council passed five (5) By-laws including; 
    • 2022-01 - Amend By-law 2011-54 Being a By-law to Provide for the Maintaining of Land in a Clean and Clear Condition
    • 2022-02 - Being a By-law to Consolidate the Traffic/Parking and Use of Highways Regulations and to Repeal By-law No. 2012-23 and All Amendments to the Same
    • 2022-03 - Being a By-law to Authorize the Execution of an Agreement with The Ship’s Company of Penetanguishene April 1, 2022 through to March 31, 2025
    • 2022-04 - Being a By-law to Authorize the Entering into a Berthage Agreement with Landmark Cruises Inc. for Tour and Charter Boat Operations for the 2022-2026 seasons
    • 2022-05 - Being a By-law to Amend Zoning By-law 2000-02 as amended of the Corporation of the Town of Penetanguishene (95 and 97 Poyntz Street)

Committee of the Whole

Committee of the Whole (Committee) facilitates the decision-making process of Council. The Committee is comprised of all members of Council who fully participate in debate and forward recommendations to Council for final decision. Items that are discussed in Committee of the Whole are to be ratified at Council’s next meeting.

Special Council Meeting

  • Council convened in closed session in accordance with the Town of Penetanguishene Procedural By-law 2019-25 to discuss labour relations or employee negotiations. 
  • Council approved the ratification of the negotiated CUPE collective agreement outlined in the presentation.
