Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Impacts on Municipal Services

The Town of Penetanguishene continues to monitor news and updates concerning COVID-19 in order to ensure we work to keep our community members safe.  To make sure our community can stay involved and up to date we will continue to provide weekly updates through our website email subscription service.

Current updates are as follows:

Launch Ramp:

  • The Launch Ramp will be open Friday, May 22nd.  Please note until further notice; Slips, Wharf & Tourist Information Centre, washrooms and showers remain closed.
  • The opening of the wharf is in process. Slip renters will be notified on a case to case basis as their slips become available.
  • Staff are NOT permitted to assist with launching. All launching needs to be completed by the crew of the watercraft.

Summer Day Camp:

  • The Town is awaiting direction from the Province before announcing any decisions about Summer Day Camp.

Mid-Pen Transit:

  • With the Ontario Government recommending anyone travelling on public transit use a face covering to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Town of Midland is encouraging all Mid-Pen Transit riders to wear a face covering on the bus. All transit users will be required to sanitize their hands when entering the bus. In addition to these steps, transit operators have been sanitizing the buses throughout the day, ensuring all touch points are cleaned regularly. The full media release is attached.

Building Permits:

  • The Province has permitted construction projects to recommence as of Tuesday, May 19th.  Staff will be contacting anyone who applied for permits since the Emergency Orders were in place when your permit is ready. If you have any questions with respect to submitting a new building permit application, please contact Town Hall (705) 549-7453 and leave a voicemail. Applications can also be dropped off in the Townhall dropbox and will be received for processing.

Community Improvement Plan:

  • A virtual public meeting will be held to consider a proposed community improvement plan (CIP) for the Town of Penetanguishene, pursuant to the provisions of the Planning Act. This meeting will be held at 7PM using the platform Zoom, on June 10th, 2020. Please refer to the full CIP public notice here.   

OPP Reporting Tool:

  • OPP ask that you report allegations of non-compliance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act by phoning 1-888-310-1122 or utilizing the online reporting tool at opp.ca/reporting. If you have questions about what businesses can be open or impacts to your business or employment, call the Stop the Spread Business Information Line at 1-888-444-3659.

Fire Safety:

  • Fire permits are not required at this time. Please remember that fires are for recreational purposes and are only permitted between 4:00 pm to midnight. Please refer to the “Open Air Burning Permit Terms and Conditions” attachment for guidelines and more information.
