Closures Remain for Wharf and Launch Ramp Victoria Day Weekend

May 14th, 2020 - Today, the Ontario government announced that certain seasonal services, including public boat launches, may open for recreational use as early as Saturday May 16, 2020 at 12:01 a.m.

While we understand our residents are eager to get out on the water, we hope that everyone understands that it is not as easy as ‘flicking a switch’ and we are all working together to navigate this as best as we can to provide our services safely to all residents.

The Town’s Emergency Control Group and Senior Management Team reviewed the operational impacts of both the Wharf and Launch Ramp and determined that the Town of Penetanguishene will not be ready to safety operate in time for the Victoria Day Long Weekend.

Staff have been working to take the necessary steps to recreate the way the launch ramp and wharf will function, taking into consideration new cleaning protocols, boat launch waiting areas and heavy signage. The Town will closely monitor the evolving situation and advise the public when the Wharf and Launch Ramp will be ready for public access.

We would also like to remind all Residents that our municipal parks and trails remain open, however all park amenities such as play structures, courts and the dog park are closed.  When out in the parks remember to always practice physical distancing by leaving at least 2 metres (6 feet) of space between you and anyone you may pass.

To report allegations of non-compliance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (i.e. for non-essential businesses being open, social gatherings exceeding 5 people who are not from the same household, use of closed outdoor recreational amenities, etc.), please call the OPP’s non-emergency phone line at 1-888-310-1122. The OPP are receiving complaints related to COVID-19 and forwarding them to the appropriate municipality for action as required.
