Town of Penetanguishene Class Environmental Assessment Municipal Snow Storage Location: Notice of Study Completion

The Town of Penetanguishene (‘Town’) has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (‘Class EA’) to determine a preferred location for snow storage and Class 2 Waste Management Site. The current snow storage location is a privately owned property which the Town leases.

The primary objective of this Class EA was to identify a preferred Town-owned storage location for storing snow removed from Town land during winter maintenance operations and provide a Class 2 Soil Management facility for the Towns various infrastructure projects. The preferred location is an approximately 2.5-acre site with an additional 1.5 acres reserved for future expansion (4 acres in total), a portion of the Morden Gravel Pit, and is also the current snow storage location. The report recommends the Town enter negotiations with the Owner to obtain the land for permanent use.

Completion Process

The Class EA report has been finalized which documents the environmental constraints, planning, decision-making process, and public consultation process. The Class EA report is available on the Town website for public review for a duration of thirty (30) days starting 12 July 2024 and ending on 12 August 2024. To provide comments on the project, or if you require alternative accommodations to view the EA report, please contact either of the project contacts listed below before 5:00 p.m. local time 12 August 2024.
