The Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives opens to the public Wednesday, July 28
(Penetanguishene) - The Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives will be open to the public with a 50% capacity limit, starting Wednesday July 28th, 2021. Previously, in accordance with the Provincial Re-opening Plan, the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum remained closed to the public.
“We are so pleased to be opening to the public again. Over the closure we have been working hard to improve the layout of our museum and to provide digital components to your visit to make your experience safe and enjoyable” said Nicole Jackson, Museum Curator. “Although we had been running virtual programing and events, teaching about our community history in person is long overdue.”
The office hours for the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives are 9 AM - 4:30 PM Monday to Saturday, with a lunch closure from 12:30 PM-1:00 PM.
“The official opening of our Museum is great news for our community and residents” said Mayor Doug Leroux. “Since the arrival of COVID-19 almost 17 months ago, Community Museums have been forced to close for the majority of the pandemic. Now that they are slowly opening to the public, I encourage you to go out and visit museums in your surrounding area to show your support for our community heritage and culture.”
In order to serve or community better we ask that all visitors adhere to all provincial regulations, including wearing a face covering, utilizing hand sanitizer and keeping 6 feet apart when in the office buildings. The following additional precautions have been put in place for your safety:
- The museum will have no more than 50% capacity inside the museum at one time. Museum capacity limits will be posted outside museum building, research room and Great Hall.
- Only one family/group will be permitted inside the designated admission area at one time. Signage and markers will be installed outside of the front door to indicate when visitors may enter the building.
- Visitors must adhere to the one way signage inside the museum that will help direct traffic and allow for physical distancing.
- Staff will record each patron’s name and contact information for the purpose of contact tracing.
- Hand sanitization stations will be located at front entrance and patrons will be encouraged to use them when entering the building.
- Access to the research room will be limited to appointments only.
- Visitors will be required to self-assess their health and will be encouraged to NOT visit our museum if there is any possibility that they may have contracted or have come into contact with COVID-19.
