KICKSTART is a self-directed drop-in program for teens grades 9-12. Facilitated by a local artist, KICKSTART encourages young artists to imagine, plan, create and share art-based projects and events to develop skills for the arts industry. Along with exploring new art forms, teens will learn the stages of project design, planning and implementation with opportunities to execute various community based projects and exhibitions. Throughout the year, teens will get a chance to visit with guest artists and professionals who will provide insight into their careers in the arts industry. Our goal is to provide teens a safe space to explore, discover, expand and share their creativity

Ages 7 – 12 Teacher: Emma Warburton Every Wednesday, kids will have fun while experiencing different art techniques including sculpture, painting, printmaking and drawing. Children will build their creative confidence and problem-solving abilities while working in our professional studio space. There will be new and different projects from our fall and winter courses. With Easter being so late this year, we are hoping (and a little praying) that the weather will be simply outstanding. Regardless the Easter Bunny will still be here waiting to thank all the children who help pick up all his eggs in an egg hunt. He also has a number of games for them to play and crafts for them to create and take home, plus face painting! Best of all he always makes sure that every child goes home with a goody bag for all their hard work. So if it is wellies or sandals, coats or sweaters, bonnets or toques we will be here waiting to provide some good old family fun!

As our spring migrants travel through our region we are offered a brief glimpse at these species as they travel to their breeding grounds. This opportunity presents itself but two times per year! Learn about why birds migrate and some of their migration patterns in Part A as well as birding ethics, followed by in depth ID skill building in Part B. Part B: Migration Identification: April 19, 2020 The second part of this workshop series focuses on identification. Be ready to learn intricate details of each species of songbird that can be found during this integral time of year for birds. Details like habitat preferences, behaviours, field marks, and songs & calls will be studied before voyaging on an identification hike to work on our newfound skills and see some of nature’s most amazing creatures!

Enjoy the musical styling of the Serentata Choir as they perform Paul Winter's Missa Gaia. Tickets are available at Wye Marsh, from Serenata Choir Members, online at: https://www.wyemarsh.com/choir or from Johnstone's Music Land. $20 adults, $15 students, children under 12 are free. Performance is non-denominational, all are welcome. This powerful composition blends an environmental liturgy of contemporary music with Kyrie and the Agnus Dei prayers, modern texts, hymns, and instrumental pieces, wolf calls, whale songs, and other animal sounds,which are woven into the pieces.

Painting Copeland Creek with Brian Burnett

This course will start with a walk along the Copeland Creek trail where you will sketch and learn sketch painting set up. These preparatory drawings and/or sketch paintings will be the foundation for your larger painting which will be painted back at Quest Art Studios. Walking the Copeland Creek Bridges trail provides many exciting viewpoints, all situated on one trail accessed from Penetanguishene. Interpretation of these sites can be translated in any form from realism to abstraction, in either acrylic or oil paints. Note: spring temperatures should allow for En Plein Air paint sketching. Quick paintings or drawn sketches can be accomplished depending on the climate of the day. It is recommended that students have some sort of photo device to record their chosen sites for future reference. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN •Outdoor sketching and sketch painting setup •Imagery development •Translating image to larger in-studio painting •Enhanced painting skills in acrylic or oil

A Cause to Get Muddy For! What is Mud Mayhem? Test your abilities and have fun while you walk, run , climb, or crawl through 5kms of amazingly muddy obstacles. The North Simcoe Rotaract Club invites you to join us on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the Parc Rotary Champlain Wendat Park, as we come together for fitness, wellness, and to support innovation and sustainability in our community. Who benefits from Mud Mayhem? This year, Mud Mayhem is supporting local innovation and sustainability. All proceeds will support both Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation (GBGHF) and Bridget's Bunnies. GBGHF will be dedicating funds towards their electronic record upgrade (Meditech Expanse) to improve the way patient information is shared between all hospital staff members and increase efficiency within the hospital. Bridget's Bunnies will use funds to ensure no family endures pregnancy or infant loss alone by bringing their comfort kit program and raising awareness about the issue of pregnancy and infant loss at Georgian Bay General Hospital.
