Mayor's Message - July 23 2017

Posted on Monday July 31, 2017

Good morning, Bonjour

I hope you have had a great All Things Canadian weekend.  The Urban Slide was a hit once again, our park was full of vendors and happy folks strolling about.  Jan and I popped by Friday evening and again on Saturday afternoon, everyone we bumped into shared what a wonderful weekend they were having.  It was nice that mother nature gave us back to back good weather days as they have sure been few and far between this summer.  Hats off to all of our Recreation staff for a job well done !

And a thank you to MP Bruce Stanton for riding the urban slide with me, we we’re looking like a couple of washed ashore politicians at the end of it !

Council wise we’re still in a bit of a summer lull  but we did manage to get a few things underway, we approved for release to the public our new draft Official Plan. This is a significant milestone for this very important planning document. The full policy document and associated mapping can be found at:

If you want to know how this new Official Plan may impact the future growth of our Town or use and development of any properties within Town, please contact the Andrea Betty in the Planning and Development Department at 705-549-7453 ext. 215 .  Staff can arrange for a one-on-one meeting to review the mapping and policies or add your name to our contact list for updates!  We WANT to hear from you before Council reviews the Official Plan this Fall.

And; if you didn't get an opportunity to participate at the Public Meeting for the Town’s Service Delivery Review on July 27th you can still provide your comments by completing this survey Completing the survey will give you an opportunity to win a "Living the Dream" Prize pack.  Included within the prize is a package of 4 wine glasses, 4 koozies, 1 water bottle and 1 tote bag.

I hope you can join me for my Warden’s Golf Tournament on September 14.  This is the 13th Annual Warden's Golf Tournament and this year the event is being hosted at the Midland Golf and Country Club. Proceeds are in support of Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. The funds raised will assist in youth mental health efforts and as well Mental Health First Aid training. The Golf Tournament is the first of several events we will hold in an effort to fundraise $300,000 to support Waypoint Mental Health initiatives across the County of Simcoe . There are 93 hamlets, villages, towns and cities across the County and Waypoint’s initiatives will have a positive impact in each and every one of them. I am grateful for all that Waypoint brings to our communities and I am pleased to be able to assist in this fundraising effort.

Registration of $250 per golfer includes 18 holes of golf, cart, complimentary lunch, dinner, and a gift from the Warden. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items for donation to local food banks.  It is a 11 a.m. shotgun start, scramble format. Contests will be taking place on course, along with a silent auction in the club house.
