Notice of Public Meeting: Building Fee

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Penetanguishene will hold an electronic Public Meeting on the date and time listed below in order to consider proposed amendments to the Town’s Building By-law 2018-50, being By-laws to Regulate Construction, Demolition, and Change of Use Permits for Buildings, Structures, and All Other Related Services.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT – The Town of Penetanguishene and Midland have jointly provided Ontario Building Code (OBC) enforcement and administration since 2015. In 2018 the fees collected under the Building By-law were harmonized between the Towns as amendments were made to each municipal by-law. The Town of Penetanguishene is proposing to amend the Administrative Fees and Services portions of the By-law and replace with an amended Schedule that includes a 15% increase to all residential fees, which is consistent with the Town of Midland’s updated by-law which came into effect on July 1, 2021. The proposed amendment follows review of the building permit fees under Section 7(b) of the Building Code Act. The effect will be to modify the Administrative Fees and Services Schedules of each By-law. Information will be provided at the meetings on the estimated costs of enforcing and administering the Building Code Act, the amount of the proposed fee(s), and the rationale for changing (and/or imposing) fees.
