Mayor's Message - December 31, 2017

Posted on Sunday December 31, 2017

Happy New Year !

Another year has come and gone, they do seem to go by quickly.

A fairly short message today as the past week was filled with time spent enjoying family and friends,  I hope your week was similar!

Staff wise , not a creature was stirring at town hall this past week as we closed down for the holidays and will re-open on January 2nd.  That said, there was lots of stirring with our Roads Division staff with all the snow that fell, and man, that sure was a boat load of snow!  Our Roads Team put in incredible efforts to keep up as Old man Winter kept the snow squalls coming and coming.  Thanks to all whom emailed or called council members to share your appreciation of our staffs relentless efforts to clear our roads and sidewalks. We passed along your compliments and I can share our Roads Team appreciated your kind words of support.

The week to be

A bit slower than most,

Monday - you can kick off 2018 in a lifesaving manner as there is a Blood Clinic running from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. at the Midland Rec Center. If tomorrow does not work for you there is Blood Clinic slated for Wednesday, January 31st at our Penetanguishene Legion from 3:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m.  Both of the clinics have a target of collecting 77 units – which usually means that they’re hoping for over 90 donors through the door.

Tuesday – sees me attend meetings  on the SWIFT Fiber initiative, the pursuit of German based investment/business attraction opportunities and a Team update meeting.

Wednesday – we have a Crime Stoppers Flag Raising at Town Hall (1:00 p.m.) and I join my fellow local Mayors’ for an Ontario Budget Hospital Meeting with Waypoint & GBGH.

Thursday – I prep for a SWIFT Fibre Board meeting.

Friday – I meet with the Assistant Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to update him on the SWIFT Fibre project.

In closing, Jan and I wish you all the best for 2018, we hope your year is filled with more gladness than sadness, more smiles than frowns and more ups than downs !

Bonne Année !
